ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Eastman Kodak Co. said Wednesday that Samsung Electronics Co. has agreed to pay the camera maker an undisclosed sum as the two sides try to set down a dispute over patents used in Samsung's camera phones.

The announcement came less than a week after the U.S. Ecumenical Trade Commission ruled that Samsung infringed two Kodak patents. Kodak had alleged in November 2008 that camera phones made by Samsung violated a number of patents that Kodak obtained from 1993 to 2001.

Based in Seoul, Samsung is the world's biggest industrialist of memory chips, liquid crystal displays and flat screen televisions and ranks assistant behind Finland's Nokia in mobile phones.

Kodak has amassed more than 1,000 digital-imaging patents, and almost all of today's digital cameras rely on that technology.

Under the settlement announced Wednesday, Kodak and Samsung will work out a licensing deal to cover the patents in harbour, as well as others owned by the two companies. Kodak said the payments that Samsung agreed to make this year would be credited toward unborn royalty obligations under such a licensing deal.

Art Lebedev has released details of a concept camera that he claims will grant photographers to "shoot at angles never imaginable before".

Lebedev is best known for his customisable - and highly valuable - Optimus Maximus keyboards , which put a tiny OLED screen beneath the surface of each key.

Now he's turning his notice to photography. Although there's nothing particularly original about cameras mounted on flexible tubes, Lebedev has put a fresh spin on the ploy by adding a small viewfinder to the other end.

He's also designed a version which will have a 3in display module attached to the camera, effectively turning the stratagem into a bendy camcorder.

"Fleximus is a photo and video camera," Lebedev's website reads. "It is designed to have as few controllers as on. The flexible tube allows a photographer to shoot at angles never imaginable before."
