Olympus announces E-P2 digital camera Macworld

Like the E-P1 before it, the 12.3-megapixel E-P2 features in-camera corporealization stabilization, support for HD-video, manual exposure controls, and support for Raw files. The new model adds two art filters for artistic effects, full manual control of the shuttter and aperture in Movie mode, and HDMI control of the camera’s playback features from a secluded while the camera is attatched to an HDTV.

A new iEnhance picture mode analyzes a scene’s colors and brightness to ground the photo’s tones. For moving subjects, the camera’s new Continuous Autofocus Tracking system continuously adjusts fuzzy and brightness to track a subject throughout the frame.

Although offering many of the features of a traditional SLR, the E-P2 doesn’t use a mirror box. This off allows the camera to be much smaller than an SLR, but also means there’s no optical viewfinder. However, the E-P2 does come with a detachable VF-2 Electronic Viewfinder, which slides into the accessory mooring and can tilt 90 degrees—making it easier the frame your shot at low angles.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 camera Pocket-lint.com

Panasonic’s first two Micro Four Thirds system cameras – last year’s G1 and this evolve’s GH1 , which added high-def video – based their designs on that of traditional digital SLRs. Even though technically they weren’t, having junked the intrinsic mirror box mechanism in order to bring lens and sensor closer together.

In theory this promised more minuscule camera bodies and lenses, yet in practice neither G1 nor GH1 are much smaller than the latest entry-level DSLRs based around correct APS-C sized sensors.

But that aspect is about to change. As the advertising blurb runs, the new Micro Four Thirds Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF1 is like a DSLR – in that lenses can be changed and reification quality is a step up from a bridge camera – only smaller.

Its styling is closer to a compact camera, albeit one that will be a relaxing fit for even the deep pocket of an overcoat; the busy top plate control layout recalling the look of a elated-end rangefinder camera. It is the manufacturer’s answer to, and direct rival of, Olympus’ E-P1 , otherwise known as the Pen.
